6/01/2010 - June workshops will seek input on alignments
and modes
VIA has scheduled several public workshops in June to allow further public input
on this visionary plan before it is finished this fall. At these workshops we will
provide an update on the project and seek input on study alignment and mode options.
Basically we will have community discussion regarding which type of transit service
best meets the future needs along certain streets. This is an important opportunity
for both the public and VIA so please try to come.

1/29/2010 - Upcoming meetings to be announced soon
Since the initial round of VIA SmartWay SA community workshops this past fall –
the phase one community involvement component - VIA has gathered information from
the public for the Long Range Comprehensive Transportation Planning process and
began studying more than 25 corridors within the San Antonio-Bexar County area.
We have conducted research on transit systems across the United States that serve
the public with a variety of transit modes, including commuter rail, light rail,
streetcar, bus rapid transit, high occupancy vehicle lanes and local bus service
and other transit improvements including transit centers and park and rides. Analyzing
the way other cities utilize multimodal services, VIA is able to study which modes
work best in other major cities and regions, while examining the current and future
transportation needs of the greater San Antonio-Bexar County region.
VIA is in the process of planning the next phase of public involvement which will
likely start in late March 2010. These meetings will offer the community another
opportunity to contribute to the Long Range Comprehensive Transportation Plan before
it is drafted this summer. Please stay tuned for an announcement soon regarding
the details of these meetings.

10/23/09 - Series of community meetings set to get
more input
Getting input from the community is critical to the success of SmartWaySA. Kickoff
community meetings were held at Sunset Station this summer to hear what people had
to say. A second set of meetings has now been planned to try to reach out to more
poeple. If you could not come to Sunset Station, please come out to one of the meetings
in November. If that is not possible, please complete this
short online survey.
Now is the time to help us plan VIA's next innovation.

9/9/09 SmartWaySA Kickoff Meetings and Workshops
a Success
The SmartWay Kickoff events held at Sunset Station
from August 31 to September 3 were designed to get initial feedback from the community
as VIA develops a Long Range Comprehensive Transportation Plan. While the plan will
take about a year to complete, it was important to start the process with a clean
slate, open minds and a vision for our future. During the four days we were excited
to have a mix of people provide that vision. Community leaders, planning professionals
and finance experts sat at the table with bus riders, neighborhood activists and
other concerned citizens. Together they provided critical input into where this
plan should go and how it should be developed. We can only hope this tremendous
involvement from the community continues until the plan is finally drafted next
year.
